Tim: Alright... I'm ready to confess a huge secret... Originally I was going to kill off Mattie's character, but not before he would mold stilted, heterosexual Tim into his own image... eventually replacing him after his untimely demise. Thus, the character we know as Mattie today would have been a transformed, metrosexual Tim. This is, unfortunately, an absolutely true story.

But fortunately, Mattie was so well-loved since the beginning that I couldn't bear to go through with it. Though I still did introduce Tim very early on (3rd or 4th strip, I believe), and I eventually worked in the "make-over" storyline, Tim has faithfully remained Skippy's stilted, heterosexual friend. He represents the mis-and-uninformed conceptions of homosexuals that people might have, however harmless those stereotypes may be. His and Skippy's friendship is my direct way of responding to some of these ridiculous notions. (No, I've never been with a woman and I don't need to be.)
